What are the main applications for the Oli-Tec label?

The Oli-TecTM time temperature indicator label is designed to work on products with limited lifecycles, either through either degradation or lack of efficacy. Food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics are the primary initial markets for Oli-TecTM time temperature labelling. However, many more markets and applications could be served by the Oli-Tec indicator label as interest grows and expansion occurs.

How does the Oli-Tec time and temperature indicator label work?

Oli-TecTM is a time and temperature indicator lifecycle monitoring label, containing internal reservoirs, connecting pathways, and starting mechanism, with a viewable window which changes colour, in a traffic light manner, Green>Amber>Red.

Do the colours change gradually on the Oli-Tec time and temperature label?

No, the colour change transitions on the Oli-TecTM indicator labels are very fast, within 1 minute or so, removing any ambiguity on behalf of the consumer. In fact, if you see the colour changing, you may just want to stop and watch the show!

When do the colours change on the Oli-Tec label?

The colours on Oli-TecTM labels change using pre-determined spoilage parameters, the point of the colour change varies with both time and/or temperature, reflecting product age and storage conditions, and are matched to the degradation profile of the products that the label is attached to.

Is the Oli-Tec label both time and temperature sensitive?

Yes and no!. The indicator label can be made to disregard temperature, or it can be made to positively react to temperature and storage conditions. This reflects the degradation profile of different foodstuffs which behave in the same manner.

Are there many different types of label?

Oli-Tec indicator labels can be made in many different shapes and sizes to reflect the shape and configuration of the product packaging.

Is Oli-Tec recyclable?

Yes. The Oli-Tec time temperature indicator label body is constructed from 100% polypropylene.

How much does Oli-Tec labelling cost?

Oli-TecTM time and temperature indicator labels cost not much more than a conventional multi laminate label, but it is significantly less expensive that other, often inferior, technologies.

How accurate is the Oli-Tec label?

Plus, or minus, 12 hours in controlled conditions. However, the actual timing of colour change reacts to the storage conditions, therefore variation can and should take place if the environment in which the labels are stored vary. This can be down to simple placement within the refrigerator, the conditions within not being entirely uniform.

Is Oli-Tec fail safe?

The Oli-TecTM indicator label is designed to be fail-safe, in instances where mechanical damage is sustained, the internal components react and deliver a Red display in the viewing window.

Are the Oli-Tec label components toxic?

All the constituent parts have been assessed for toxicology. A child aged six would have to physically consume 50 labels before any, and probably minor, side effects would become apparent.

Will the Oli-Tec label work if the goods are frozen?

Yes. The internal components of Oli-TecTM indicator labels will happily freeze, stop working, de-frost and re-commence time/temperature indicator activity. Expansion through freezing of approx. 5% is more than accommodated by the flexible filmic nature of the label body.

What are the timing limits?

It is possible to produce Oli-Tec labels which act from 1 day to 30 days, and whilst the majority of limited lifecycle products fall within this range, the main timing range is from 3 to 10 days.

How thin or flexible is the Oli-Tec indicator label?

The Oli-TecTM label thickness varies, but falls within the range 150 microns to 300 microns. Due to the highly flexible nature of the label body components, tricky applications such as round or conical bottles and flexible packaging can be achieved.

Can we have a two-colour change, i.e, Green to Red, without the Amber stage?

Yes, absolutely. Specific critical applications such as pharmaceutical do not want an amber phase, as drugs should be either good or not good, with no ambiguity. Indeed, the two internal mechanisms of the Oli-Tec indicator label provide redundancy and additional product safety as a result.

Is Oli-Tec patented?

Yes. We have World-Wide patents in force, with further global applications in various phases through to grant. Indeed, sub-licensing of the technology on a global basis is part of the overall business strategy.

How will Oli-Tec help with food management?

Current date codes are dumb, in that they are not reactive and have no relevance to the period of opening, and storage conditions thereafter.  The Oli-Tec time and temperature indicator label provides accurate and easy to understand colour information to the consumer, enabling food to be consumed safely within the appropriate time.

Can the Oli-Tec label be automatically applied?

Yes. The Oli-Tec label was designed to be applied either by hand, or through conventional high speed label application machines, as seen throughout the food and pharmaceutical markets.

Where is Oli-Tec available?

The accredited manufacturers and suppliers of Oli-Tec time and temperature indicator labels will be released at the product launch.

When will Oli-Tec become available?

The Oli-TecTM product launch is scheduled to take place early in the second quarter of 2017.
